About Bird Key

Located just off-shore of Florida, south of the Ringling Causeway, between mainland Sarasota and St. Armands Circle, Bird Key is directly connected to exciting shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. A short drive west down the Ringling Causeway brings you to plenty of dining and shopping options at St. Armands circle. Following the same road in the other direction takes you right to the museums, theatres, golf courses, and attractions of downtown Sarasota.

On the island, stunning contemporary and Mediterranean style homes are nestled among mature palm trees and lush tropical vegetation. Many of these homes have direct views of the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and some sit on waterfront properties. At less than half a square mile in size, Bird Key is an exclusive and highly sought-after island neighborhood.

Those who are lucky enough to call Bird Key home treasure their own private oasis under the warm Florida sun. Watching picturesque sunsets from their balconies, opening their windows to a gentle, ocean-scented Gulf breeze, and listening to waves lap on the nearby shore are comforts that Bird Key residents enjoy year-round. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of mainland city life, Bird Key is a secluded and serene locale that still offers proximity to larger, mixed-use areas.

The island’s unique history adds to the charm of living in Bird Key as well. The island itself is man-made – created by dredge and fill in the late 1950s. It was given the name “Bird Key” because of the large populations of birds that flocked to the original island.
