There’s been debate about which is the hottest summer month. Your home doesn’t care. It’s still hot and your home still uses a lot of energy to cool down in August. But here are a few ideas to slow that energy loss and save yourself some money.
- Up on the roof – So much heat collects in attics and crawl spaces that make the rest of your house hotter than it should be. Install an attic fan to bid this hot air bye-bye and lower your cooling costs in the process.
- Outdoor window awnings – These can shade a great deal of sunlight and heat from entering your home, especially for windows facing south.
- Draw your blinds – If you can’t install awnings, a less costly solution would be to draw your blinds, especially during the heat of the day.
