Sarasota is a vibrant city infused with art, culture, and history, all mingling amid a stunning tropical milieu of palm trees and mangroves, pristine white-sand beaches, and sunny blue skies. Located on the southwest Coast of Florida, Sarasota is a popular vacation spot, as well as a treasured year-round home for many.

Much of Sarastoa’s arts and culture scene can be traced back to the influence of the Ringling Brothers, who owned the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in the early 1900s. The circus was a travelling show that moved through Florida via a railway that ran through Sarasota County. The old railway has since been converted to the Legacy Trail. As you walk this pathway, you can read all about its origins and the Ringling Brothers on informational sign posts dotted along the trail’s edge.

The Ringling Brothers’ fanciful influence permeates the atmosphere of Sarasota to this day. The city is filled with theatres, art galleries, and historical attractions, and is touted as the arts and culture hub of Florida’s Gulf Coast. Sarasota is a haven for budding and established artists and performers, and their constantly evolving works make Sarasota an exciting place to be. From formal museums and galleries with traditional style paintings, to shops and galleries with more avant-garde pieces, there is visual art in Sarasota for every taste. The same can be said about the city’s performing arts scene; Sarasota is home to a professional symphony, ballet, and opera, but edgier, more modern shows are often held at smaller venues throughout the city.
